“Black and White Country” is a sharp-witted satire brought to life by the El-Pergola Puppet Theatre. Premiering at the Library of Alexandria and later gracing the Goethe Institute, this play plunges audiences into a town defined by stark contrasts and peculiar logic.
In this monochrome world, a young man from a vibrant town arrives with ambitious plans for a garbage recycling project. Instead of welcome, he faces suspicion from the locals, who accuse him of espionage, convinced that his seemingly harmless initiative hides ulterior motives. The situation spirals out of control when the police escalate the charges, leading to a riot of comedic mishaps.
The climax unfolds in a breathtaking puppet operetta set in the courtroom, where a dramatic standoff erupts between the judge and prosecutor on one side and the spirited defendant alongside the townsfolk on the other. This riveting tale blends humor with a sharp critique of societal absurdities, ensuring a memorable theatrical experience.
