The Play “Open Your Eyes to Win the Prize ” takes us on an exhilarating artistic journey, showcasing the events of the Egyptian revolution on January 25, 2011. Set in a remote village, the story unfolds as the mayor and his cronies resort to buying votes with money and food, igniting fierce indignation among the villagers who decide to unite against this corrupt authority in order to establish a new constitution that reflects their will.
As tensions mount, characters dive into profound discussions about critical political concepts such as the necessity of separation of powers and defining what a constitution truly stands for. These exchanges aim to enlighten the villagers about their rights while empowering them not to allow anyone to exploit them again.
However, determined to cling to his power, the mayor attempts to sow discord among the people by bribing some into allegiance. The situation escalates until public anger reaches its peak, prompting residents to gather for his ousting. In response to growing protests, he and his men resort to violence by firing upon the enraged crowds, resulting in injuries that further ignite outrage.
The play narrates its gripping tale with impactful storytelling interwoven with exquisite songs that add depth and richness to this artistic experience. These songs carry powerful messages urging resistance against corrupt governments that plunder their people’s wealth while living in luxury.
